Environmental

With respect to the environment, Indigo Red Exports ensures that the source of solid Tasmanian Oak is from companies that have achieved the following standards:
The Australian Forest Certification Scheme (AFCS) - this scheme comprises two key elements:
- Australian Forestry Standard (AS 4708 (Int) 2003)
Australia 's first national forest management certification standard. The AFS embodies forest management performance criteria and requirements that support continual improvement towards sustainable wood production in Australia's forests.
- Chain of Custody
Which tracks practices through the production chain; this is an international benchmark for independent verification to guarantee a trace back system from finished product to the forest.
The Australian Forestry Standard has received international approval from the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC). The PEFC is a globally recognised, independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation, founded in 1999 which promotes sustainably managed forests through independent third party certification. The PEFC provides an assurance mechanism to purchasers of wood products that they are promoting the sustainable management of forests.
The Environmental Management Standard (ISO 14001) – this standard ensures the company:
- Minimises the harmful effects on the environment, caused by its activities; and
- Achieves continual improvement of its environmental performance.
This ensures that the product originates from sustainably managed forests and protects our planet for future generations.
